KUYE’s concept EP “Amancer” continues to unfold --. This forth track out of the five in the Album, links two worlds, San Basilio de Palenque & NYC.
Featuring RFP (Rap Folklóriko Palenquero) rapper and friend, MC Ukibe, former Member of Kombilesa Mi, and an ancestral son of Benkos Bioho from the magical place officially known as Palenque de San Basilio in Colombia”.
This collaboration is true oxygen! Mantra and flow come together in this jam full of identity, roots and culture.
The track is hip hop mixed with a flavorful sancocho beat from Drukas, lyrical melodies from aka*juan, sweetly filtered guitar riffs from Matuk and a journey through the desert, with pulsating bass lines from Mo! The tone, a canvas of sound is set and MC Ukibe ‘s sick flow blazes up the fire killing the m u r m u r o (the rumor) like no one else can. Before you know it, MC UKIBE is spitting lines, of freedom, of self-determination and history; the proud history of Ukibe; “i am from a town, from a people who freed themselves a long time ago, who fought and fought and broke free, Palenque, from a people who never gossiped and today we exceling”...! as MC Ukibe says on the track; because the fight was for Freedom, in the early 1600s when they became the first freed black town in the entirety of Abya Yala or the americas, in San Basilio de Palenque, Ukibe’s natal place.
Ultimately, mixed in one pulse, the song is a careful thread between the world of hip hop, RFP, tradition and the experimental spirit of the band.
Murmuro comes with another beautifully powerful Digital Collage Art, as Brazilian collage artist Mavi Morais creates unique pieces for each song in the EP. The visual art is part one of an intentional series that when pieced together will represent “Amanecer”, KUYE’s dream-like state.
